Safety Eyewear
We stock a full range of prescription safety eye wear by Bolle. Our safety lenses are impact resistant and chemical resistant, and ensure optimum vision quality due to accurate colour rendering.
Safety lenses can be made from one of two materials, namely Trivex (brand name, Phoenix) or Polycarbonate (brand name, Airwear).
Polycarbonate is the same material CD's and DVD's are made from. Although polycarbonate is strong, it is very soft and vulnerable to scratches (even with hard lens coatings) and does not withstand chemicals (it is easily eaten away by acetone). Is it also optically inferior, and is susceptible to chromatic aberration (this is the reason why CD's and DVD's appear to have a 'rainbow' affect to them). Chromatic aberration is usually perceived as blur when looking through the lens peripherally.
Trivex is as tough as polycarbonate, but has the advantage of being more scratch resistant and is chemical resistant. It is also optically superior, and doesn't suffer from chromatic aberration when looking through the lens off axis.
Trivex lenses are considered to be of better quality and superior optics, which is the reason we use them for our safety prescription lenses.
